“My daughter has just completed the Gammagirls’ program. Truthfully, when she enrolled in the program we were not really sure what it was all about, but it seemed like a good idea. The program surpassed all expectations. What a fabulous program! Accolades to all involved in the implementation. I am writing you this because as a mother of three daughters, the Gammagirls’ mandate and philosophy echoes my own. This message can make a difference in these young teenage girls’ lives and give them such empowerment. As she proudly wore her t-shirt to school this morning, my daughter is a testimony of the impact of this program.”
“I just wanted to thank you so very much for running the Gammagirls’ program at your church. My daughter attended and was profoundly affected. She has been going through some of those difficult times that being a teenager entails and this group showed her such a lot of support and love. The leaders were so wonderful and caring. They really went out of their way to make each girl feel special and loved in a very personalized way. It really helped to open the lines of communication between us as a family. The lessons she learned will have a life-long impact.”
“I have a lot of respect for the program. My daughter went through the program when she was at a point where she could have gone either way. This program really helped get her heading in the right direction.”
“When I was growing up, I was told, ‘Don’t do that, or you’ll be in so much trouble!’ You were scared to death into not doing things. For these girls, it’s more, ‘I’m going to make good choices because it will honour God. I would be restricting myself if I made a poor choice. It’s the right thing to do, and here’s why. I can explain it, and it totally makes sense.’ “Gammagirls brings about a heart change. These girls are ahead of a lot of women in their twenties that I know who are still trying to find their identities. It’s not about who you are—it’s about Whose you are. God’s got a bigger plan: He’s got the big picture.
“I really liked the unit on risk-taking—what’s worth it and what isn’t. That was new territory. The program covered a really great spectrum. My daughter has been totally prepared for situations: if something comes up, she knows the steps she would take. She has also drawn some thick lines, lines she will not cross.”
“My hope is that other communities will adopt the Gammagirls’ program. The whole course is beautiful . . . and if you just add on your own [cultural] uniqueness, it’s even better.
