Progam Summary

What, specifically, is my daughter learning each week?

Each session is two hours long.  Here is an overview of each week:

Week 1: About Gammagirls

In this introductory week, Gammagirls participants meet their Mentors and each other.  They will begin to understand why the concept of Gammagirls is important, what a Gammagirl is, and how to become one.  Topics discussed include being a self-leader, creating/increasing trust in a relationship, and when to trust.

Week 2: The Art of Communication

Week 5: Silent Conversations: Understanding Your Inner Voice

In this session, the girls learn about the empowering benefits of managing their inner voices and setting appropriate boundaries.  Topics discussed include recognizing these “inner voices”—the subconscious thoughts and ideas that often affect our decisions and beliefs about ourselves and others.  Participants will learn to combat negative self-thoughts, and to set and enforce boundaries.

Week 6: Taking Action: Problem Solving and Assertiveness

This week’s material discusses the importance of effectively confronting and resolving problems.  Topics discussed include handling conflict, communicating assertively, understanding personal responsibility in problem solving, and recognizing problems and dealing with them effectively.

Week 7: Sex, God, and You: Healthy Sexuality for Teens

This session will expose the girls to the issues of sex and sexuality within the context of biblical purity, for which they were designed.  Topics discussed include the biblical principles of sex, factual information about sex, the importance of a healthy understanding of sexuality in relation to dating, self-presentation, abstinence, the importance of personal and relational boundaries, and “refusal skills” and techniques for protecting and respecting boundaries.

Week 8: To Do or Not to Do: Managing Risk

During this session, the girls will learn how to better manage the risks associated with living and functioning in the world.  Topics discussed include evaluating choices/assessing risk, establishing escape routes for various situations, self-defense techniques, and discerning between healthy fears and fears that hold us back

Week 9: Big Problems, Little Problems: Being a Real Friend

Throughout this week’s material, the girls will explore how to choose and nurture healthy friendships.  Topics discussed include identifying qualities that make a good friend, being a good friend, understanding the importance of the give–and–take of friendship, loving ourselves so that we can love others, evaluating safety versus confidentiality, recognizing when a situation is too big to handle without help, increasing awareness of available help resources, and applying effective problem-solving methods.

Week 10: Honoring your Dreams: Graduation Party!

In this final session, the girls will recognize that dreams and goals are necessary steps along the path to their futures, and will celebrate their Gammagirls graduation.  Participants will learn how to pursue dreams and break them down into manageable and realistic goals.  They will review the major Gammagirls concepts.  Most importantly, they will celebrate everyone’s successful completion of the program.

Gammagirls // Welcome to Gammagirls
Welcome to Gammagirls

Gammagirls is a program designed to engage teenagers in conversation with adult mentors about the real life issues that they face each day.

Through group work and mentoring, Gammagirls seeks to help young women understand who God created them to be and to remain strong and focused in the midst of peer pressure.

The Gammagirls’ curriculum provides tools and information to better equip teens for the challenges through which they must navigate on their way to adulthood.  Gammagirls provides a safe place to discuss the issues that are really on their minds.

It is an interactive, short-term mentoring program designed primarily for girls between the ages of 13 and 15, although it has been successfully used with a broader age group as well as with Gammamoms!
